Your First Appointment:
The first appointment lasts about 90 minutes and includes a comprehensive intake interview and first treatment. We’ll talk about your goals for treatment, what you’d like support with, your symptoms, where you are thriving and where you are struggling. Together, we’ll explore your medical and social history as well as body systems and lifestyle habits. There will also be a short Chinese medical physical exam so I recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
Following the initial appointment, I recommend that patients schedule at least five consecutive appointments on a weekly basis, which really allows us to observe how treatment is working and adjust accordingly. From there, patients often find a rhythm that works for them, which may be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or seasonally depending on goals.
I am a participating provider with Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, and Cigna for acupuncture. Many companies are now offering benefits for acupuncture and I strongly encourage you to look at your insurance coverage. Additionally, often times, flexible spending accounts (FSAs) can be used for acupuncture treatment.
